Game Settings
Before you start to surf, there are a few things that you can do to improve your experience in the game.
Enable Developer Console
Enabling the developer console is important when surfing, as there are sometimes commands that you need to enter. Entering the command, without quotes, "voice_enable 0", into the console will remove all player microphone communication. Helpful if you don't want to listen to what is effectively a group call with 30 people.
Video Settings
- Disable motion blur
- Disable Vsync if your computer runs CSGO at a higher FPS then your framrate, or else, play around and see what works best for you
- Lower graphics settings until your game feels "smooth". For me, this means a minmum of 100FPS
Other Settings
- Enable direct input for your mouse
- Consider rebinding keys, such as the communication keys on Z, X, and C, so that you don't accidentally finger fumble them in the middle of a map
Servers
What server you join is going to dictate a lot of the experience that you have in the game. Luckily, it is easy to swap to another if you don't like what you start on. My suggestion is to start on a server that advertises Tier 1 maps, or "Beginner". Surf difficulty ramps up fast, intermediate is not something that you will be able to finish for a significant amount of time. Feel free to jump into a high tier or Advanced server and see how far you get! It's always a good time to type "!spec" into the chat box, and follow the on screen prompts to view other players. Watching advanced surfers fly through the levels makes for great entertainment, not to mention learning on how best to ride ramps and navigate new maps.
